Synergy is a controller for iTunes that resides in your Menu Bar so you don't have to switch to iTunes to start and stop the music. The picture here is how I have it configured but the look of the buttons is completely skinable and there are tons of user created buttons on the developers site. It also displays a nice floater at the start of a song that tells you basic song info and can display the album cover. It's size, details, placement and transparency are all customizable as well.
I like Synergy over other iTunes controllers because it can have a compact interface, the floater is very Mac like and unobtrusive and it is regularly updated by the developer with fixes and additions. The preferences are controlled from the System Preferences
I highly recommend it for all you iTunes junkies out there.
